YouTube’s New Likeness-Detection Technology for Content Creators
YouTube has officially launched its likeness-detection technology for eligible creators in the YouTube Partner Program. This tool, following a successful pilot phase, empowers creators to request the removal of unauthorized AI-generated content that uses their likeness.
This innovative technology identifies and manages AI-generated content that features aspects of a creator’s identity, such as their face or voice. The goal is to prevent unauthorized use of likeness for endorsements or the spread of misinformation.
Creators who are eligible received notifications about the rollout and can access the technology through the ‘Likeness’ tab on the platform. The onboarding process involves consenting to data processing, scanning a QR code for identity verification using a photo ID and a brief selfie video.
Once access is granted, creators can monitor detected videos, submit removal requests in line with YouTube’s guidelines, or lodge a copyright request. They also have the option to archive videos or opt out of the service, after which the scanning stops within 24 hours.
This technology marks a significant advancement in protecting digital identities, addressing issues of AI misuse that have been prevalent in recent years. YouTube’s partnership with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) further supports the identification and management of AI-generated likenesses on its platform.
As the digital landscape evolves, YouTube continues to advocate for regulations that address AI-generated content, ensuring a safer environment for creators and their audiences.
