SK Telecom’s AI Division Restructuring: A Strategic Move Forward
In a significant move to optimize its operations, SK Telecom has initiated a restructuring of its AI division. This decision comes just weeks after the launch of its new AI CIC (Company-in-Company) unit.
The restructuring includes offering a voluntary retirement program, aiming to support employees whose roles might be affected by the organizational changes. This initiative is not intended as a downsizing measure but rather as a supportive option for staff who may face role transitions or relocations within the company.
The integration of SK Telecom’s various AI-related units into a centralized organization is designed to streamline overlapping roles and enhance operational efficiency. This strategic move will oversee the development of SK Telecom’s personal AI agent, ‘A-dot,’ along with managing AI data center operations and enterprise AI business ventures.
The company anticipates this restructuring will bolster its goal of achieving an annual revenue target of ₩5 trillion (approximately $3.5 billion) by 2030, driven by AI-powered B2C and B2B services.
This initiative is part of SK Telecom’s broader effort to enhance its AI capabilities and maintain a competitive edge in the global market. As part of the ‘Stargate Korea’ initiative, the company is also planning to develop AI data centers in southwestern Korea, further solidifying its commitment to AI advancement.
