In a notable move within the tech industry, Perplexity has announced its acquisition of Visual Electric, a startup known for its innovative AI-driven design tools. The team from Visual Electric will now become part of Perplexity’s newly formed Agent Experiences group, where they will focus on expanding creative capabilities using artificial intelligence.
Founded in 2022 by tech veterans Colin Dunn, Adam Menges, and Zach Stiggelbout, Visual Electric rapidly gained attention for its unique tool designed to assist designers in creating and editing images on an infinite canvas, as well as generating videos. This platform enabled designers to explore ideations and develop concepts in a versatile digital environment.
With Visual Electric’s integration into Perplexity, users can expect a discontinuation of the current product within 90 days, but the company has assured users that they will have the opportunity to export their data. Additionally, subscribers will be offered prorated refunds as part of the transition process.
Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, the acquisition is poised to enrich Perplexity’s offerings, as it continues to push the boundaries of AI in creative applications. This strategic move is backed by Visual Electric’s successful $2.5 million funding round from notable investors such as Sequoia, BoxGroup, and Designer Fund, underscoring the startup’s potential in transforming digital design landscapes.
With this latest addition to its portfolio, Perplexity reinforces its commitment to innovation and leadership in the evolution of AI-powered design solutions.
