OpenAI, a leading player in artificial intelligence innovation, has entered into a strategic partnership with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to streamline the integration of AI technologies into federal agency workflows. This collaboration aims to offer OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise at an unprecedented rate of just $1 per agency for the next year, setting a new standard for affordability in government contracts.
The GSA, known as the government’s central purchasing arm, has included OpenAI in its list of approved AI vendors. This move allows participating federal agencies to access AI tools via the Multiple Award Schedule (MAS), which simplifies procurement by providing pre-negotiated contracts. This initiative encourages other AI firms to consider similar collaborations, as emphasized by GSA Federal Acquisition Service commissioner Josh Gruenbaum.
Beyond just providing AI tools, OpenAI is offering federal employees the opportunity to utilize advanced models for an additional 60-day period. The initiative also includes the formation of a new government user community and the provision of tailored training resources, ensuring that federal employees can effectively leverage OpenAI’s technologies.
Data security remains a priority, with government agencies keen to safeguard sensitive information. The GSA has assured that a security-first approach is in place, protecting data while enabling agencies to harness AI-driven efficiencies. Measures such as on-premises or private cloud deployments are reportedly being considered to enhance security.
This initiative aligns with recent government efforts to integrate AI technologies more broadly, following the publication of a federal AI Action Plan that promotes data center expansion and broader AI tool integration.
