Google’s AI Mode Expands to Five New Languages

In a recent development, Google has announced the expansion of its AI Mode, an AI-powered Search feature, to five new languages: Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese. This expansion aims to make the advanced search capabilities accessible to a broader audience worldwide.

The AI Mode, initially launched for Google One AI Premium subscribers in March, is Google’s strategic move to compete with other AI search platforms like Perplexity and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search. Utilizing a customized version of Gemini 2.5, it boasts multimodal and reasoning capabilities that enhance user interaction by allowing more complex queries in users’ preferred languages.

Hema Budaraju, VP of Product Management at Google Search, stated, “With this expansion, more people can now use AI Mode to ask complex questions in their preferred language, while exploring the web more deeply.”

Moreover, Google has been gradually introducing agentic features within AI Mode, which currently allow users to find restaurant reservations. Future updates are expected to include support for booking local services and event tickets. Initially limited to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S., these features are part of the “Agentic capabilities in AI Mode” experiment in Labs, with the Ultra tier priced at $249.99 per month.

Currently, AI Mode is accessible via a dedicated tab on the search results page and a button in the search bar. As Google works towards making this AI-driven search experience the default, Logan Kilpatrick, Google DeepMind’s group product manager, hinted at this transition responding to a user query on X.

Despite some criticism regarding the impact of AI Mode on search clicks, Google’s initiative signifies a significant shift in how users interact with search engines, prioritizing AI’s role in enhancing search efficiency and user experience.
