Anthropic Expands Claude’s Capabilities to Attract Developers

Anthropic is making significant strides in enhancing its AI model, Claude, aiming to appeal to enterprise customers and developers. The company has increased the amount of information that can be processed in a single prompt, raising the context window to 1 million tokens. This expansion allows Claude to handle requests equivalent to 750,000 words or 75,000 lines of code, which is five times its previous limit and more than double OpenAI’s GPT-5 offering.

This increased capacity is accessible to API customers and available through cloud partners such as Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud’s Vertex AI. By focusing on AI coding platforms, Anthropic seeks to maintain its leadership position in the industry. However, the competitive landscape, including OpenAI’s GPT-5, presents challenges with its competitive pricing and robust coding capabilities.

Brad Abrams, Anthropic’s product lead for Claude, emphasizes the benefits of the expanded context window, particularly for complex and long-duration coding tasks. While some companies offer even larger context windows, such as Google’s 2 million tokens and Meta’s 10 million, Anthropic aims for a balance between size and effective processing capability.

To accommodate the increased processing, Anthropic has adjusted its pricing for API users, with costs for prompts over 200,000 tokens rising to $6 per million input tokens and $22.50 per million output tokens. These enhancements underscore Anthropic’s commitment to improving AI capabilities and maintaining its edge in the competitive AI landscape.
