Anthropic Expands Claude Code AI Assistant to Web and Mobile

Discover Anthropic’s latest move to enhance developer experience by launching Claude Code on web and mobile platforms, aiming to make AI coding agents more accessible and versatile.

Anthropic has recently launched a web application for its AI coding assistant, Claude Code, enabling developers to create and manage AI coding agents directly from their browsers. The service is available to subscribers of Anthropic’s Pro and Max plans, providing seamless access through the Claude website and iOS app. This strategic move aims to elevate Claude Code from a terminal-based tool to a more versatile web-based solution.

In a competitive market, Anthropic’s initiative represents an effort to distinguish its AI coding tools from those offered by giants like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI. Despite the competition, Claude Code remains a popular choice, having increased its user base tenfold since May and contributing significantly to Anthropic’s revenue.

According to Cat Wu, Anthropic’s Product Manager, the success of Claude Code is largely due to their advanced AI models, which have become increasingly sophisticated. Wu emphasizes the importance of maintaining the terminal as the core platform while expanding to web and mobile to meet developers’ needs wherever they are.

Interestingly, 90% of Claude Code’s development is performed by AI models themselves, highlighting the transformative impact of AI in software engineering. This evolution has shifted the role of developers, who now manage AI coding assistants rather than writing code manually.

Despite some challenges, such as AI tools struggling with large, complex codebases, Anthropic is committed to advancing AI coding agents. The company envisions a future where AI plays a central role in software development, although widespread adoption might take time.
